Privacy policy

How this website handles personal information.

Closson Advisory Inc. advises organizations on privacy and AI governance, so we hold this website to the standard we ask of others: collect only what is needed, explain it plainly and keep it no longer than necessary.

This notice describes the personal information collected through clossonadvisory.com, why it is collected, who it is shared with and how you can reach us about it.

Privacy policy details

Information we collect

When you use the contact form, we collect the information you provide: your name, email address, organization, the nature of your inquiry, and the details of your message. These fields are submitted only when you choose to send the form.

If you contact us directly by email, we receive whatever information is contained in your message.

Our hosting provider records standard technical information required to deliver and protect the website, such as IP address, request time, requested page, browser type and error information. This is generated automatically by the request, not entered by you.

Interactive assessments

Some of our articles include a short interactive assessment. Your answers stay in your browser while you work through the questions. To view your result, you are asked to provide your name, work email, organization and professional role or title. When you ask to see the result, we receive and keep those details together with the answers you selected and the resulting assessment category.

We use that information to provide the assessment result you requested, to understand your inquiry, to respond to you, to provide advisory information you have asked for, and to maintain appropriate business records. Completing an assessment does not subscribe you to marketing, and once you submit the form the submission is no longer anonymous.

Why we collect it

We use the information you submit to:

  • respond to your inquiry and discuss whether and how we can help
  • understand the nature and scope of the work you are asking about
  • provide an assessment result or other information you have requested
  • maintain a record of business inquiries and any resulting engagement
  • meet our professional, insurance and legal record-keeping obligations
  • keep the website secure, available and functioning correctly

What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
  • We do not add you to a mailing list or send marketing campaigns from a website submission.
  • We do not use advertising networks, retargeting pixels or cross-site tracking on this website.
  • We do not attempt to build a profile of you from your visit.

Sensitive information

Please do not send confidential, privileged or sensitive personal information through the contact form or by unencrypted email. The form is intended to start a conversation, not to transfer case material.

Once an engagement is in place, we will agree an appropriate and secure method for exchanging information.

Legal advice and confidentiality

Contacting Closson Advisory Inc. does not create a solicitor-client relationship, and information sent to us through this website is not protected by solicitor-client privilege. Closson Advisory Inc. is affiliated with DevLaws, an Ontario law firm; legal services, where required, are provided under a separate legal engagement.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of service providers to operate this website. They may process personal information on our behalf, and some of them operate or store data outside Canada, including in the United States. Where information is held outside Canada, it may be accessible to courts and authorities in that jurisdiction.

The providers involved are our website hosting provider, the content and inquiry platform that stores contact form submissions, and our email provider. We share information with them only as needed to operate the website and respond to you.

Cookies and browser storage

This website does not use advertising, retargeting or tracking cookies, and no analytics provider is connected to it at present. Only strictly necessary browser storage is in use: storage required to operate the site and to remember choices you make yourself.

If you choose a Day, Night or Auto appearance, that preference is saved in your browser's local storage (closson-theme) so the site looks the same on your next visit. If you make a choice in our privacy preference centre, a small record of that choice is saved in the same way (closson-consent): the preference version, the date and time of your choice, and which optional categories you allowed. It contains no name, email address, IP address or other identifier.

Both entries stay on your device, are not transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.

If optional analytics are ever introduced, they will be switched off by default and will only operate if you turn them on in the preference centre. Nothing optional is loaded before that choice, and if you withdraw it we stop future optional processing and remove the non-essential storage created by this website. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, optional technologies stay off unless you enable them yourself.

You can review or change your choices at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the footer of every page.

Links to other services

This website links to third-party services, including the DevLaws website, any social profiles we publish and any scheduling link we make available. Once you follow such a link, the information you provide is handled under that organization's own privacy practices, not ours.

Retention

Inquiries are retained for as long as needed to respond, to maintain a record of business communications and to meet professional and legal obligations, after which they are deleted or de-identified. Technical request logs are retained for a short period for security and reliability purposes.

Security

The website is served over HTTPS, form submissions are validated on the server, and access to inquiry records is limited to those who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, which is why we ask you not to send sensitive information through the form.

Your choices and rights

Subject to applicable Canadian privacy legislation, you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, request access to it, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. You may also withdraw a request for contact at any time.

We will respond to requests within the timelines required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

Children

This website is intended for organizations and business contacts. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We update this notice when our practices or the tools behind the website change. The date above reflects the most recent update.
